Member terms

Effective October 22, 2026. Version 2026-10-31. Viewer Panel is operated by Virtue, a Colorado limited liability company, Boulder, Colorado ("we", "us").

The member portal at join.viewerpanel.com shows these terms before the Send button. The upload screen has one checkbox: "I'm 18 or older, this is my own TikTok data, and I agree to the member terms and privacy policy for this upload." Our privacy policy and notice of financial incentive are part of these terms and give the full detail.

Participation is voluntary

Joining a study is your choice. You can stop at any time without losing pay you've already earned.

Who can join

You must be 18 or older (21 or older for alcohol studies), live in the United States, and own the TikTok account you export. Uploading anyone else's export or data breaks these terms.

What you share

At signup, your ZIP code and city. When you sign up and each time you upload, we estimate your city and state from your IP address to confirm you're in the study area and to prevent fraud; we keep only a hashed form of the IP for 90 days.

The TikTok export you download yourself, each time your study asks for one. From it we keep the videos you watched with the time each started, how long you watched (worked out from the gap to the next video), likes, favorites, shares, reposts, searches, accounts you follow, and the ad interest labels TikTok lists for you.

We take your TikTok username and display name from your export's profile. We keep them encrypted to confirm the account is yours and to prevent fraud. They're never shared with companies or included in study results.

The copy of your file, and what we never keep

We keep a copy of your TikTok export file for research and to prevent fraud. The portal reads the file in your browser and removes your messages, comments and payment details before anything is sent. The copy includes the rest of the file, such as login and device history with the IP address of each login (used to check you're in the US), location data, your profile, the ads you tapped, and the companies that shared your activity outside TikTok with TikTok. Records from health companies, such as pharmacies, clinics and weight loss brands, are removed before anything is sent. Only our team can open it, and it's deleted when you delete your data or 24 months after we receive it. A few facts are worked out on your phone and sent only as a yes or no, or as a count, to check eligibility and prevent fraud, such as whether your birth date makes you 18 or older (21 or older for alcohol studies) and whether your export's email or phone matches the one you signed up with.

How it's used

We use your data to run research studies. Your data is combined with other people's data and used for these three purposes. One tap agrees to all three, and they are shown in full before Send.

  1. Audience studies for companies such as brands, apps, tech companies and insurers (marketing and product only, kept out of pricing or underwriting you).
  2. Group trends for investment firms, such as attention to a company or product over time.
  3. Group level datasets licensed to companies and refreshed over time.

Nobody receives your rows, name or handle. Companies see results for groups of 50 people or more. Your data can serve more than one study. A company gets exclusive use of results only where its contract says so.

We haven't sold personal data. In the future we may sell or share it with businesses that buy research, and deidentified or aggregated data may be used, shared or sold for any purpose. We may use or share data from the panel, including in research for businesses. Data we share always leaves out your name, email address, phone number and other contact details. You can opt out of any sale or sharing now in the portal or at privacy@viewerpanel.com. Opting out stops any sale or sharing of your personal data from then on. Deidentified and aggregated data may still be used and shared. For deidentified data, we take reasonable measures so it can't be linked to you, we commit to make no attempt to reidentify it, and our contracts require everyone who receives it to make no attempt to reidentify it.

Sensitive categories

We build, report and sell nothing about health or medical conditions, sexual orientation or sex life, religion, politics, race or ethnicity, union membership, immigration status, criminal history, precise location or financial hardship. Studies naming one are refused, matching ad interest labels are dropped before storage, and reports drop matching brands, options, formats, creators and labels.

Optional extras

  • Check ins. Some studies ask a short question with each export, such as which of a few apps or products you used or bought. Answers are optional and go into the same group results.
  • Instagram. You can also upload Instagram's export. From it we keep the ads you saw (advertiser and time), videos watched, posts seen, likes and follows. Messages and everything else stay on the phone. Instagram exports pay on the same terms, counted separately from TikTok.
  • App history. You can upload the app history Apple or Google gives you. Your phone matches it against the study's apps and sends only the matched app name and its first install date. Every other app stays on the phone, since an app list can reveal health, dating, faith or money.
  • Amazon orders. You can upload the order history Amazon gives you. Your phone matches it against the study's brands and check in options and sends only the date of each matching order and the matched name. Product names, prices, addresses and all other orders stay on the phone.
  • Reminders. You can give an email for export reminders. It is stored apart from the payout email and used only for reminders, and you can turn it off in the portal.

Referral program

  • You earn $1 when a friend you invited has their first TikTok file approved (it passes our full review) and our ID check confirms they're a different person from you. A signup or a finished survey alone earns no reward.
  • Bonuses: $5 when 5 friends qualify, $15 more at 15, and $30 more at 30. A friend who bought a car in the last 3 months, or plans to buy or lease one in the next 3, counts as 2 friends toward these bonuses. The $1 reward is the same for every friend.
  • Referral rewards and bonuses stop at $100 in a calendar month. A reward that would pass the limit is cut to what's left.
  • Each study has a budget for referral rewards. When it runs out, new referrals stop earning rewards and the Refer page says the program is paused. Rewards you already earned stay yours.
  • Rewards are paid to your wallet, the same way as upload pay, after your ID check.
  • These don't count: inviting yourself, a person who already signed up or joined, and a person someone else invited first. Each person can be invited by one member. We may hold a referral for review, and we don't pay for referrals that break these rules.
  • Share your link only with people you know. We never ask for your friends' contact details, and we never email anyone who hasn't signed up.
  • We can change or end the program with 30 days notice by email. Rewards you already earned stay yours, at the amounts in force when each one qualified.

Scout

  • Scout is open to members whose first file passed our review. You apply in your account, and a person approves each application.
  • Send links to TikTok videos posted in the last 2 days that you think will take off. Up to 5 a day.
  • Pay per find: $0.50 when we accept it, $5 more if it breaks out, and $25 more if a company uses it. We decide which finds to accept.
  • Scout pay goes to your wallet, the same way as upload pay.
  • Send only public videos. Send a video of yourself or someone you know only with their permission. We can end Scout or your place in it with notice; pay you already earned stays yours.

Pay and taxes

  • You earn $5 when we receive a usable TikTok file, and $25 more when it passes our review and has at least 500 videos over 7 days, for $30 for each approved export. Some studies add bonuses, shown before you join.
  • For each later export, we count only viewing since your last approved export: at least 500 new videos over 7 new days. A usable file below the minimum earns $5 only, and its viewing stays out of studies. Your upload page shows how many videos and days the file covers.
  • We review every file automatically, and a person may review it too. Pay for the file depends on it passing our review. If something needs fixing, we tell you what to do.
  • If the file can't be used (wrong file, TXT, or no viewing history), we tell you how to fix it, and the $5 comes when you send one that works.
  • When your Viewer Panel pay in a calendar year reaches $600, we ask for a W-9 before we send more: your legal name, address and tax ID (Social Security number or EIN). The legal name must match the name on your ID. Your tax ID is encrypted and used only for tax reporting. We keep it as long as the law requires.
  • The amounts are the ones shown when you sign up, and we store them with your agreement.
  • Payouts go to your wallet, run by our payments and identity verification provider, Whop. Before your first payment, Whop checks your ID and legal name under its own privacy policy. We receive whether the check passed and a hashed fingerprint of your name to prevent fraud. Your payout email is stored apart from your viewing data.
  • You're responsible for any taxes on what you earn. We may issue tax forms, such as a 1099, where the law requires them.
  • Pay you've already earned stays yours if you stop or delete.

Review and removal

We may hold a file for review, decline to pay for a file that doesn't pass our review, and remove any member for fraud or for breaking these terms.

We may ask you to confirm your TikTok account by adding a short code to your TikTok bio. You can remove it once we confirm. A held file stays held until the account is confirmed or a person reviews it.

Studies and earnings aren't guaranteed

Studies open and close as research needs change. We can't promise that a study will be open to you, or any amount of earnings.

Retention and the record we keep

Viewing rows, check ins, signup location and scout screenshots are deleted 24 months after we receive them, or when you delete. Payment records and W-9s are kept 7 years for tax. The copy of your export file is deleted with your viewing rows.

Each time you share, we log the date, the terms version and the uses you agreed to. When you delete, we log the withdrawal. When the payout provider checks your ID before your first payment, we log that it was checked; your ID itself stays with the payout provider. The log keeps no viewing data, is kept at least 7 years, and stays after you delete, as proof of what you agreed to and when you left.

Stopping, deleting and downloading

Stop at any time. In the portal, Download my data gives you a copy of everything we hold about you, and Delete my data deletes your account, contact details, TikTok username, location, screener answers, check ins, scout finds, payout and reminder emails, and your row by row viewing history. Records of payments already sent, and your W-9 if we paid you, stay in our accounts as tax law requires, with the viewing data removed. Pay you've already earned stays yours. We may keep and use group results and anonymous statistics that include your past data and can't be linked to you, including in future studies, such as how many panel members watched a video. We take reasonable measures so this data can't be linked to you, we commit to make no attempt to reidentify it, and our contracts require everyone who receives it to make no attempt to reidentify it. You can also email privacy@viewerpanel.com. We answer requests within 45 days.

Disclaimer of warranties

Viewer Panel is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and noninfringement.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, and our total liability for any claim about Viewer Panel is limited to the amount we paid you in the 12 months before the claim.

Governing law

Colorado law governs these terms, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, we email you before the change takes effect, the version number changes, and the portal asks you to agree again before your next upload.
