Viewer Panel privacy policy
Effective October 21, 2026. Version 2026-10-22.
Viewer Panel is a paid research panel. You download the data export TikTok gives you, your phone removes the private parts, and you upload the rest. We pay you for each approved export. Companies that buy research receive results for groups of 50 people or more.
Who we are
Viewer Panel is a research service operated by Virtue, a Colorado limited liability company, Boulder, Colorado. Our contracts use the legal name Virtue. Questions go to privacy@viewerpanel.com.
What we collect
From your TikTok export:
- The videos you watched, the time each one started, and how long you watched (worked out from the gap to the next video)
- Likes, favorites, shares and reposts
- Searches
- Accounts you follow
- The ad interest labels TikTok lists for you, minus any in the sensitive categories below
A few facts are worked out on your phone and sent only as a yes, no or count: whether your birth date makes you 18 or older (21 or older for alcohol studies) and inside the study's ages, and how many devices your login history shows. Your birth date, login history and the location data in your export stay on your phone.
When you sign up: your answers to the signup questions, your email, your ZIP code and city, and, if you give it, your mobile phone number. We save your answers as you go, so an unfinished signup is kept too.
How you found us: we record how you found us, like the ad or link you clicked (the campaign tags in the link, the page that sent you, and the first page you saw), with a random visitor number stored in your own browser. We record the steps you take on this site, such as each signup question, the walkthrough screens and your uploads, with the time. All of this is first party: we use no third party tracking pixels.
When you sign up and each time you upload, we collect your IP address to estimate your approximate location (city and state). We use it to check eligibility and to prevent fraud and duplicate accounts. We keep the city, state, a rough distance band and a scrambled (hashed) form of the IP address, which we delete after 90 days. We never store the raw IP address or your precise location.
Your ZIP code and your IP address are the only things we use to judge where you are. We never ask your phone or browser for its location, and we don't send your IP address to outside lookup services.
Only if you choose to share them:
- Instagram: ads you saw, videos watched, posts seen, likes and follows
- Amazon orders: the date of each order that matches a brand in your study, and the matched name
- App history from Apple or Google: the install date of apps that match your study
- Check in answers, such as which of a few products you bought
- Scout screenshots you send us
- A payout email, and a separate reminder email
What stays on your phone
Your member page reads the export in your browser and sends only the list it shows you before you press Send. These parts stay on your phone:
- Direct messages
- Comments
- Contacts
- Location
- Login and device history (we receive a device count only)
- Your birth date and profile details (we receive an age yes or no only)
- Payment information
- Every Amazon order and app that has no match to your study
We keep no copy of the export file itself.
Why we collect it
We combine your data with other members' to show companies how groups of people watch, follow, search and buy. You agree to these uses on your member page before each upload:
- Audience studies for brands, apps, tech companies and insurers. Insurers use them for marketing and product decisions only, and results stay out of pricing or underwriting any person.
- Group trends for investment firms, such as attention to a company or product over time.
- Group level datasets licensed to companies and refreshed over time.
Who receives what
Companies that buy research from us receive group results only. Every result covers 50 people or more. Your rows, your TikTok handle and your contact details stay with us. One export can serve several studies, each for a company in a different market.
Service providers that run the panel for us also handle data: our database host, Whop, which sends your payments, and an AI model provider that helps our team draft replies to the emails you send us and reads the creator and topic from scout screenshots you send. A person reviews every reply before it goes out.
Sensitive categories
What you watch can hint at private parts of your life. Viewer Panel builds, reports and sells nothing in these categories, and our software drops them from every study and result:
- Health and medical conditions, including mental health, reproductive health and addiction
- Sexual orientation and sex life
- Religion and beliefs
- Political views and affiliations
- Race and ethnicity
- Union membership
- Immigration status
- Criminal history
- Precise location
- Financial hardship
A study that tries to target one of them is refused, and ad interest labels in these categories are dropped before they are stored.
Selling data, and how to opt out
Companies pay us for group results built from members' data. Under state privacy laws, including California's, that counts as a sale of personal information. You agreed to it when you joined, and you can opt out at any time.
To opt out and delete, press Delete my data on your member page, or email privacy@viewerpanel.com from any address with your member page link. Deleting removes your viewing rows, check ins, scout finds, payout and reminder emails, and your membership right away. Your data is left out of every result made after that.
Group results already delivered to companies stay with them, since they hold no rows of yours and cover 50 people or more.
We may use or share data from the panel, including in research for businesses. Data we share never includes your name, email address, phone number or other contact details.
De-identified and aggregated data
We may use, share and sell de-identified or aggregated data for any purpose. De-identified data can't reasonably be linked to you. We take reasonable measures to keep it that way, we publicly commit not to try to re-identify it, and anyone we share it with must agree in writing not to re-identify it.
Your rights
- Get a copy of what we hold about you: sign in at your account and press Download my data.
- Delete it: Delete my data in your account or on your member page.
- Correct it: Correct my info in your account, for your email, phone or ZIP code.
- Opt out of sharing: in your account, at any time.
- Appeal a decision we made about your request: reply to our answer and a second person reviews it.
Your account handles these right away. You can also email privacy@viewerpanel.com; we answer emailed requests within 45 days. Using any of these rights costs you nothing and changes nothing about your pay for exports already approved.
How long we keep it
- Viewing rows, check ins and scout screenshots: 24 months after we receive them, or until you delete, whichever comes first.
- Payment records: 7 years, for tax.
- Consent record: at least 7 years, as proof (see below).
- Signup answers from people who didn't qualify or didn't join, the answers you give as you move through the signup (even if you stop partway), and the record of pages you visited and how you found us: 24 months. If you were under 18, we keep only your answers, never an email or phone number you typed.
- Answers from people who qualified but didn't make an account: 90 days.
- Waitlist (your email, age range and the first three digits of your ZIP code): until you leave the waitlist or ask us to delete it.
The consent record
Each time you share, we log the date, the terms version and the uses you agreed to. When you delete, we log that you left. When Whop checks your ID before your first payment, we log that the check happened. The log holds your anonymous member id and these events, with no viewing data, and it stays after you delete as proof of what you agreed to and when you left.
Who can join, and identity
Viewer Panel is for people 18 and older (21 and older for alcohol studies) who live in the United States and have their own TikTok account.
Whop, our payout provider, checks your identity before your first payment. Whop collects your ID and legal name for that check under Whop's own privacy policy. Viewer Panel receives only whether the check passed, whether you're 18 or older and inside the study's ages, whether your address is in the study's state, and a scrambled fingerprint of your name that stops one person from holding two accounts. We store no name, birth date, address or ID. We hold your payout email apart from your viewing data and use it only to pay you.
Pay
Members are paid for each approved export, with bonuses and referral rewards in some studies. The terms and the value we place on your data are in our notice of financial incentive.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections and is stored with our database host. Member level data can be read only with the operator's key, and payout emails sit in a separate table from viewing rows.
Changes and contact
When these terms change, the version number changes and your member page asks you to agree again before your next upload.
